The fake transporters: They packed goods, and moved away with the booty

Amit Kumar (28), Vinod Kumar (30), Deepak (25) and Shekhar Jawla (27) allegedly opened a bogus company in the name of an already existing company — Aggarwal Packers and Movers Ltd — and copied their logo. The customers contacted them thinking they are dealing with the original firm.

They claimed to be the best packers and movers in India in business. Once hired, they would neatly pack all movable goods, load it on their trucks and take them to their godown instead of the delivery address. To release the goods, they would demand extra transportation cost, a service charge and a tax fee over and above the fees.

The men who ran the bogus company landed in the police net on Friday. The police recovered articles worth lakhs, including a Royal Enfield bike that they had forcefully confiscated.

The incident came to light after the manager of the original Aggarwal Packers and Movers started getting complaints about goods getting stolen by drivers.

The manager of the company approached us saying they were getting complaints from customers about being duped by some fraudsters. When their identities were verified, they were not found anywhere on their employees list. It was then found that some people were using their company’s name to dupe people,” joint commissioner, crime, Ravindra Yadav said.

To identify the alleged fraudsters, two employees of the original company laid a trap and contacted them on the number given on the website of the fake firm.

“One of them requested for transportation of her household goods from South Extension Part – II to Bangalore. A day later, one Deepak came to her address posing as a surveyor. The deal for packing and transportation of goods was fixed for `95,000 and he demanded `11,000 as token money, which was paid to him and the date for packing and transportation was fixed,” Yadav said. He added, “No one, however, turned up on the day when the goods were to be moved and Deepak’s phone was also switched off.”

After the complaint from the employee, a case was registered and a team was formed to identify the men. Acting on an input, a raid was conducted Balaji Hospital Building in Gurgaon and four persons including the mastermind, Amit Kumar, along with his three associates, were held on July 14.

During questioning, Amit disclosed that he had been running this racket for the last six months.

“Amit also disclosed that he used to operate from Bangalore while their Delhi office was managed by Vinod in association with Deepak and Shekhar, for which they were paid good salaries,” Yadav said.
