Sudha Murthy Helps Karnataka Siblings Attend Online Classes: Gifts Laptop, Dongle And UPS

Sudha Murty, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, helped a sibling duo from Karnataka to attend online classes. Murty gifted a laptop, internet dongle, a one-year subscription and UPS to the children on Wednesday so that they can continue their studies at home.

Bhumikaye, a student of class 10, and her brother, a class 9 student, used to climb up a hillock with a table and a car battery to attend online classes, as there was internet connectivity issue at their home. On learning about the siblings’ hardships and determination, their former teacher Ganesh approached Sudha Murty for help.

Determined to take their lessons regularly, the siblings set up a makeshift tent using dried coconut fronds and plastic sheets on a hillock near their home, reported the Times of India. They would climb up everyday with a table and the car battery and stay there. Bhavitha, their younger sister would bring them food and water from home.

Ganesh now teaches at Government Higher Primary School in Hosur in Kundapur taluk. “I taught them till Class 5 at Kunjady higher primary school and they are among the most brilliant students I have come across,” he said.

“A few days ago, their father, a daily wage labourer, called me and told me about the difficulties they were facing. He said he had somehow managed to buy two smartphones but the network was a hindrance, and sought my help. With help of my friend Raghavendra Harman, I tried to contact Sudha Murty. A report about their struggles published in a Kannada daily was an extra help,” Ganesh further elaborated.

Bhumika was ecstatic on receiving the laptop. She aspires to be a doctor while her brother is a UPSC aspirant.
