Captain Tom Moore has urged fans to donate their online gifts for him to India online‘a local care home’ as he insists he has ‘everything he needs’. The war veteran made headlines for raising over £26 million for the NHS by walking laps around his garden, and he has since received over 40,000 cards, letters and presents from supporters, as well as offers for walkers and chairs. However, as much as he likes the presents he has been given, he says that the ‘lovely items’ are better off being redirected to those in need. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: ‘I have very kindly been offered lots of lovely items, such as walkers, chairs and other items.
‘I have everything I need, so instead of giving to me, perhaps you could donate these generous offers to a local care home. Thank you.’ Royal Mail had previously shared photos of their staff standing with a large amount of post for Tom, tweeting: ‘WOW! 40,000 plus cards, letters and presents for @captaintommoore at Marston Moretaine Post Office. What a legend.’ The parcel delivery company even revealed that the former serviceman had been sent so many birthday cards ahead of his 100th birthday, they gave him his very own sorting box.
