Anizham

Anizham commences with the infamous snake boat race also known as Vallamkali in the Aranmulla district on the banks of river Pamba that is streaked with elongated boats and hundreds of men rowing them. This fun occasion cannot be missed and is impatiently anticipated while bringing out the competitive side of people.

Thriketa

Sindhu, on Sunday, became the first Indian to win the BWF World Championships, crushing Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in just 38 minutes in a one-sided final in Basel, Switzerland. Sunday also happened to be Vijaya's birthday.

12 booked for assault

Zirakpur, August 28

The police have booked four persons and their eight unidentified accomplices under Sections 452, 323, 148, 149 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

Complainant Madan, a resident of Hisar, alleged that he works with a packers and movers firm on the Bhabat road here. He stated that on the night of August 26, he, along with 4 others, was loading a truck in the godown area here. Around 10.30 pm, Vijay and his accomplices, who were armed with weapons, barged into the godown and started beating him up and his colleagues. They also vandalised the property of godown, Madan said.

The complainant alleged that Vijay pointed a pistol at one of his colleagues. The suspect, along with his accomplices, then started beating them up.

Madan said when his colleagues tried to save him, the suspects also beat them up with baseball bats. They later fled away in a car bearing Haryana registration number.

As per preliminary investigations, old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the attack. After recording Madan’s statement, the police have started a probe. — OC

You might want to be extra careful the next time you open a package. L&T private limited employee S Muthukumaran, an Andhra Pradesh native who is currently putting up at the company’s rented accommodation in Rairangpur area Odisha’s Mayurbanj district, was unpacking a courier parcel containing household items when he found a 3-4ft long cobra inside the package.

The consignment had been dispatched from Guntur through courier firm ‘Agarwal Packers & Movers’ on August 9.

The company had ordered some goods from Andhra Pradesh which were packed in different boxes and were brought to the address in a truck, Odhisha TV reported.

“I found cobra while unpacking the parcel. Though all the household articles were there inside the consignment, I was shocked to see a cobra inside it. The snake might have entered into the box midway where the parcel was stationed during the shipping to Odisha,” Muthukumaran told Odisha Sun Times.

Rairangpur Ranger Ashok Das dispatched two forest guards to rescue the cobra after Muthukumaran informed the forest department about the shocking discovery.

The snake was later released into the Kucheibudhi reserve forest.
